Sub 4 Milers

Previously NUTS has updated a register of sub 4 milers. This has not been updated since May 2022. The data in sub4milers.com table is a combination of that database plus subsequent sub-4 performances that are listed on World Athletics.

Frustratingly the world athletics data only tracks best times, and so the record of ‘first date’ sub 4 is not always correct.

With the database complete it seemed worth plotting a few graphs to visualize the dataset.

First, visualizing athletes breaking 4 by month and by year nicely shows the seasonality of indoor/outdoor, plus the rise in indoor sub 4 times, particularly in recent years.
